T - Short for technical foul or time out.
Team foul - a personal foul is charged to the team as well as the player. When a team has a certain number of fouls, the opposing team is awarded free throws for each personal fouls.
Technical foul - a type of foul that is usually called because of a procedural violation or misconduct not involving physical contact between players. They are most commonly called for unsportsmanlike conduct. In the NBA, the non-offending team is awarded a free throw and the team that was in possession of the ball at the time of the foul is given a throw-in
Ten-second line - a name given to the center line when the ten-second rule is in effect
Ten-second rule - a rule mandating that a team, having gained control of the ball in its own backcourt, must bring it across the center line within ten seconds (This has changed to 8 seconds)
Three-point field goal - a field goal made from outside the three-point line making it worth 3 points
Three-point line - a semi-circle drawn around the center of the basket.
Three-point play - A two-point field goal followed by a successful free throw.
Three-second rule - a rule stating that an offensive player can spend no more than 3 seconds in the free throw lane.
Three-second violation - to violate the three-second rule
Throw-in - to put the ball into play after it's gone out of bounds. The player making the throw-in has 5 seconds to get the ball back inbounds by passing it to another player
Tip in - a score made by tapping a rebound over and through the rim of
the basketball net
Tip-off - the jump ball used to start a game
Top of the key - the area behind the free throw line but inside the
free throw circle
Transition - The shift from defense to offense when a team has gained possession of the ball in its own backcourt
Trail official - the referee or official that follows the ball up court after a change of possession has occurred; he then works near the midcourt area marker.
Trailer - An offensive player who runs behind teammates on a fast break.
Trap - when two players suddenly double team another player.
Traveling - when the ball handler takes too many steps without dribbling or takes too many steps after having ended a dribble series.
Triple double - a feat of scoring in double digits in 3 categories (points, assist, and rebounds are most common)
Turnaround jumper - a jump shot where a player is facing away from the basket pivots, jumps, and shoots.
Turnover - the loss of possession through a bad pass, violation or steal by the opposition
Twenty-four second clock - the "shot clock" in the NBA
Two-shot foul - a foul in which the penalty results in two free throws
