Lane - the free throw lane
Lane violation - when a player enters the free throw lane with the free throw is in the air but before it has touched the basketball backboard, net, or rim.
Lay-in - A shot on which the shooter leaps up from near the basket and drops the ball gently in with one hand.
Lay-up - Similar to a lay-in, except that the ball is banked in off the backboard.
Lead official - the referee who is primarily responsible for action between the baseline and the free throw line extended.
Lead pass - a pass that is thrown far ahead of a running teammate
Loose ball - a ball that is in play; but is not in possession of either team.
Low post - the area in the frontcourt, near the basket and on one side or the other of the free throw lane.
