Backboard - a piece of basketball equipment made from wood or fiberglass that the basket is attached to.
Backcourt - The area from the center line to the baseline nearest the basket being defended by the team.
Backcourt violation - failure to bring the ball from the backcourt into the frontcourt in the allotted 10 seconds; a violation
Backdoor play - when a player gets behind the defense along the baseline from the weak side to receive a pass
Ball fake - to pretend to pass or shoot the ball.
Ball handler - the player that is in control of the ball at any given time.
Bang the boards - to aggressively go after a rebound.
Bank shot - a shot that is completed by being bounced off of part of the basketball equipment mainly in this case the backboard.
Baseline - the two lines that mark the lengthwise boundaries of the court.
Baseline drive - A drive on which the player moves along the baseline toward the basket.
Basket - a basketball goal that is constructed of a metal rim that is suspended 10 feet above the floor. The basketball net is corded and is 15 to 18 inches long.
Basket ball - a 9 ½ in. ball that weighs 20 to 22 ounces.
Basket ball equipment - the hoop, net, rim, backboard, basketball, etc.
Bench - the starters' substitutes. Ex. "The Heat has a b bench". See starters.
Blind pass - when a player passes to another teammate without looking at him/her
Blocked shot - a shot that is taken out of the air by a defensive player before it reaches its highest point
Blocking - when a player uses parts of his/her body to block an opponents progress
Bonus free throw - An extra free throw awarded after the opposing team has exceeded a certain limit
Bonus situation - an event when the team is entitled to bonus free throws
Bounce pass - when a teammate passes the ball in one bounce
Box-and-chaser - a defensive play where four players form a box with two of them on each side of the free throw line and the fifth stationed near the top of the key and chases the ball as the opposition moves it around.
Box-and-one - A defense in which four players form a box, with two of them on each side of the free throw line, and the fifth covers an opponent one on one.
Box out - when a player positions him/herself between the basket and another player in order to get a rebound
Brick - a poor shot that bounces hard off the rim or backboard.
Bucket - another name for basket
Bunny - an easy untouched shot
Bury - to make a shot somewhat effortlessly
Buzzer beater - a shot made right before the buzzer sounds signaling the end of a period
